Some shots from Paris last week. M8 28 Elmarit Asph. I shot 1700+ images. Just getting to know the camera, the lens and now Aperture. I love the camera and the lens. Reminds of why I bought my first M to go on my honeymoon to Paris for the first time 26 years ago. Can't say I'm missing film as this set up let's me explore in ways I wouldn't have with film and yet preserves that intimacy and part-of-your-handedness-part-of-your-brain-eye-connectedness that nothing but a rangefinder can give.

too many shots? maybe so. but, two thoughts occur to me.

first, at the age of 49 I figure I have somewhere between 10 and 40 years of potential practice to actually get good at this, so the more practice I get... well, I'm sure you get my idea.

second, to quote Kierkegaard (well, to paraphrase him at least): "do it or don't; you'll regret both." So, I did it. And, no regrets yet. Anyway, the bad shots can serve as critical food for thought 'til I delete 'em and the good ones remind me of a nice trip.

So much many captivating things to see, it seemed like a pity not try documenting as many of them as I could capture.

One last thought for tonight: after 40 years of favoring my stronger eye -- the left one -- I forced myself to learn to shoot with my weak right one. Nice to not have my nose scrunched up against the camera back. So, old dogs can learn new tricks. Walking and chewing gum is next on my self-improvement agenda.

Must be nice not having to change film so frequently. That's close to 50 rolls!

Jesse, thanks. I'm surprised at the 2500's. They don't look nearly as bad I expected. I wouldn't shot with it much, but it can look okay if it fits the aesthetic I'm after. It works alright with neon lights where the grain adds to the luridness of the image. Here's another. 2500 at 250 w/ 28 2.8.

Being nearly a complete idiot, I haven't yet figured out how to post large images as attachments here. To get them sized small enough for the board to accept 'em, I totally screwing them up. Can anybody give me a tip or point me to some help screen on the site. Gotta be something simple to have an image of decent size up here, but I'm too dense to figure it out.

Thomas, never swapped a card once. Used a 16gb San Disk Ultra II card. They were on sale at best buy for $49. I probably didn't shoot 1700 images; I forgot that all the color ones were saved as both DNGs and JPGs. Still most of my shots were B&W so it's a lot of pix.

why shoot so many? well, for week, everywhere I looked, something interesting was happening. different my day job. for example how often are you out strolling with you family a half block from the Eiffel Tower when you stumble upon a pair of newlyweds about to take off in one of these? I never regret the shots I take -- not even the bad ones (and there are plenty of those) -- only the ones I miss.

Nice stuff. You can post images from Flickr in the thread using the image address and the code:

[IMG] [url]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3646/3454485422_367ed7310f.jpg[/url]

without spaces becomes:

As for taking lots of pictures, it's your camera and your time, you can do as you wish!
