I have the Noctilux f1.0, and really love it with my M8. The problem is for some situations, the 35mm focal length makes more sense (low light situations where the 35mm focal length will give more depth of field, hence improving focus accuracy. This is really important, especially with subjects that have some movement -children, etc,,,). The The Noctilux has the light grasp, but I am getting the feeling the Nokton may have the advantage in some situations.
So what is the verdict on this lens? I would love to see some sample photos with crops to show small detail in the area of focus at f1.2.
For under $900, it looks like a good buy, especially when I see what the New Summilux will cost. My Noctilux was the most expensive lens (used) I have ever bought, and it would be nice to see something not as expensive that would be a fine low light tool. Not as a Noctilux replacement, but to be used with it.

Could anyone post pictures of the 35/1.2 mounted on the m8/m9? I've always been curious about this lens, but the size is a concern for me. Right now I have a 28/2 ultron and if it's a slightly larger combo then I might pick one up

Sorry, I don't have a photo to post, but the 35mm 1.2 Nokton is much bigger than the 28 f2 Ultron (I've tried both). I sold the 1.2, not because of its performance, but because of its weight and size.

I use it on my M6. While I love the image quality, I'm quite bothered by the fact that the lens blocks part of the viewfinder. I think you'll have the same issue on the M8. Compared to my summicron 40mm, it's also much larger and heavier.

Here it is on the M7:
Should be the same size on the M8/M9.

I'm curious of how this lens performs on the full-frame M9.
I will probably get it soon and down the road (in some years) I will get the M9.
It would be great to see some images with the 35/1.2 and the FF M9.
Cheers,
D.

Woah that's huge, thanks for the pictures and replies
Guess I'll get the 40mm Nokton then, and if I'm unsatisfied with the bokeh I'll just sell it and buy this.

The best camera is one that still works!
It's the only lens I use on my M8 period! With a focal length of around 47mm after the crop it's very versatile.

Here's a shot @ 1.2 on M9.
The subject's face is sharpened with the PhotoKit Sharpener.
You can see some strong chromatic aberration in the green fringe around the photo mat on the right side of the image. You can also see its wide-open CA on the Reid Reviews site. (Not a problem, of course, in BW.)

It won't give you extra DOF if you walk up to your subject to get the same field of view. And if you accept the wider FOV you can get the same DOF by backing up with your Noctilux. The only difference would be whether one lens or the othr would be easier to focus because of the focussing throw etc.

I had this lens on my M8 for quite some time and liked it in general. Very good image quality, good sharpness at 1.2, excellent from 1.4 on. The size is manageable, though I found it too big for overall walk-around. As I also have the 35mm Summicron ASPH, which is my walk-around lens on the M8 and and also have been dreaming of owning the 24mm Summilux, sold the Nokton to raise money to get the 24mm Summilux.

If the 1.2 is too big for you then isn't the 1.4 from cv just as highly regarded?
It's MUCH smaller.

CV Nokton 35mm f 1.5?
Xlnt. lens on my M4P, M8 and Zeiss Ikon Z1. It's heavy compared to others, but for the performance, it is worth the weight.
