I received my M8 back from Leica USA yesterday, and I am delighted to post that they did a fantastic job! It took two weeks, the camera is perfect, and my schmutzy sensor problem was repaired.
The best news for me is that the upgrade I purchased made my very early M8 better than I had ever hoped for. The framelines upgrade is substantially brighter and makes the rangefinder block brighter too (which I did not expect). The cool thing is that my shutter is now very quiet for some reason. Leica told me that one reason for the huge price of any upgrade is that they completely break down and service the camera....perhaps they "upgraded" something in my shutter. It is like a noisy M6 now instead of small garbage truck.
So, if you are like me and prefer dull black with the advantage of shutter speeds above 1/4000 for the 21 (or 24) SX, getting an upgraded M8 is less money and superior to an M8.2 [I think new M8's are available ~$3500, and Leica has a deal now on the upgrades]. The M8 Plus.
