With all of the issues surrounding the M8, and given the significant price, is there any dealer who is willing to lease a M8 for a month or two?
This would allow a prospective purchaser to gain some experience with the M8, use their own lenses, and gain some confidence with the camera.
I bought the R digital module, when it first came out, and have been very pleased with it. However, I have been less than willing to become an early adopter of the M8, given the negative comments.
For the first time this week, I had one in my hands at Kurland Photo in NYC, but I would really like to have one to work with for a month or so.
If anyone knows of a rental program, please let me know!

The Classic Camera in London list an M8 as part of their rental options. Probably not much use to you and the cost for a month would be greater than buying an M8 (at the quoted £90 - approx. $175 - per day!).

What high-end digital camera rents for "a month or two?" How much would you expect a camera delaer to charge for such a long term rental? I've had my M8 for 3 months now and not one issue.

If you can find a rental house the has an M8 to rent it would cost 3 times the daily rate for a week rental and 9 times the daily rate for a month. The camera is so new and specialized that most rental houses are not going have them. Prices for the high end DSLR cameras are in the 200 to 300 dollar a day range. I know that Fotocare in NYC has a rental department, but they do not have the M8 to rent. They are very helpful and maybe they can point you in the direction of someone who does.

Not sure where you're located, but Vistek (vistek.ca) in Toronto has an option to lease the M8. Not sure what the exact terms are, but might be worth checking out.

In the 3 weeks I have had mine, it has performed flawless. The problems are way overblown. Buy one and enjoy! You will not regret it.

has anyone had any luck finding a house in NYC that has an M8 in rental? I have a job coming up that Im considering trying out an M8 on and really dont want to jump in with two feet and purchase one just for this gig. Gotta try an call calumet tomorrow.

Renting an M8 for a month or two would generally be cost prohibitive unless your client is willing to foot the bill.
I've rented an M8.2 locally at about $200 per day for certain occasions. The weekly cost would be $800 and the monthly cost would be $2400, so obviously it would be cheaper to buy one then sell it at a slight loss if you don't like it.
That's the reality.
