I just picked up an M8 last week. Immaculate condition with under 2500 actuations. It was purchased as a mfg refurb in feb. from a Leica dealer.
It has the latest firmware installed. I was having an intermittent problem when shooting, sometimes a "SD" would appear in the vf and nothing would work. I'd turn off camera and turn on again and get the "bottom cover removed" warning when in fact it was not removed. I was using this card-
Dane-Elec Pro line 16g b class 10 sdhc
the only way to get the camera going again was to remove battery and wait a few seconds and restart.
I thought I would try a different card so I went to my local Leica dealer and they recommended this card-
Pony LX series 16 gb class 10 sdhc
All was well for about 200 shots then the same thing started happening again.
I thought I may have an issue but then I tried a this card-
Pro master 4gb class 10 sdhc
And now no more problems!
Long story short I dont think the M8 likes the large 16gb cards
Any similar experiences out there?
And by the way this M8 is awesome, feels just like my M6.
Even thinking of getting rid of the RD1s

yeah...i don't use anything bigger than 2gb cards in my m8...even when they came out with the update to allow bigger cards...the 8gb cards used to do this to my m8 as well.

Ride, dive, shoot.
I've been using transcend 16gb class 10 card in my M8.2 without a problem. I personally prefer 8-4gb cards to minimize chance of losing many photos at one when something bad happens tho. Remember you always wanna format the card in M8, not on computer or other cameras.

I'm glad that confirms it was just the card then!

I've been using sandisk all the while... 4 and 8 gb and never a problem.
Edit: And I never format cards in camera, always just delete the files on my mac after import and before using again. Again, I've never had an issue, and it's been almost 5 years now.

Suggest using the "Format" command in camera as this matches your card to the Leica system.
When I use the card in subsequent events I always format before using.
Otherwise the card can have some compatibility issues.
Never had trouble when formatting a card.
Hope this helps you.
Best!
this has absolutely nothing to do with the original post...but your reply has a fantastic collapsing aspect to it...visually that is.

B&W
For five years, I have used Sandisk Extreme (2, 4, and 16 GB) on my M8 and haven't had any problems.
