I have been actively looking for a nice used M8 (cant afford the M8.2 or M9) and want to buy from a reputable dealer. I recently purchased one from Adorama but returned it due to the pixel line issue (see my other post here on RFF). Anyway, it got me thinking about the whole warranty situation and if it made sense to purchase from a place that has an extended warranty, or purchase an extended warranty (if available). Adorama and the other major vendors offer 30 and 90 day warranties but 90 days is the longest I have found.... I have seen in Europe that some dealers offer 6 months, etc... I wonder if those exist in the US, or is 90 days in US the best we can get?

- Does anyone know of any vendors that offer warranties longer than 90 days?
- Does anyone have experience with the standard 30 or 90 day warranties from B&H, Adorama, Popflash, etc? I would assume if it is a sensor problem they would have to send it to Leica instead of fixing it themselves?
- Has anyone purchased an extended warranty from a major vendor (e.g. 1 year, etc.)? What was your experience with it and how much did it cost?
- Any experience with Leica fixing sensor and LCD (coffee stain) defects without charge even if not covered under warranty?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could always purchase a Mack warranty for a used digital camera. The only time I ever bought one was for a Canon 40D. It never had any problems so I never used the warranty. Same can't be said for the M8 that I had. I had to send it in because it completely died. Luckily, that still had it's factory warranty.

I don't believe the Mack extended warranty will cover the repair of a Leica M8. As far as I know, and someone correct me if I am wrong, Leica can only repair the digital Ms. I can't see Adorama having the parts and tech service for this kind of camera. Unless when you purchase a used M8, the store will warranty the repairs by Leica.

I purchased my M9, a certified demo from Leica, from Popflash. It came with a warranty and I saved over 1K as if I purchased new. Worth every penny and peace of mind.

Holy cow! We've finally reached the point that there are refurb M9 bodies out there with factory warranties?! Awesome.
