So the M9 was announced. A few of my predictions were in fact true, particularly: The 6.8 micron pixel CCD was from Kodak.
I predicted that and had actually named Kodak because I had followed Kodak's CCD development history for over a decade. 6.8u is a kind of tell-tale signature, as is 7.2u with Dalsa. The 6.8u size was derived by the stated FF size and pixel count from the leaked [and now proven true] M9 brochure.
New prediction: The M10 will have a 24Mp chip, using Kodak's latest 6 micron CCD...coming 10th October 2010.
Zeiss will now have no excuse...if Leica had successfully done a FF, why couldn't Zeiss. I have long opined that making a digital camera is a matter of survival [at least for that division]. The Zeiss CEO must at least think about it [as opposed to the ZI division COO].
As I had posted elsewhere, placing "single element" micro lenses in an off-set pattern is simple optics. Zeiss is no stranger in nanoengineering. In fact, Zeiss made optical devices enabling nanoengineering.
Zeiss can simply make a deal with partner Sony...and modify the ZM body [details also discussed in another thread].
Apple now has an iPod or iPhone (?) with a 5 Mp camera. That means the iPod body can be grafted as an external LCD...histogram/chimp's please don't pounce on me. It is my personal preference.
The M9 and the likely aftermath include me first buying a CV 25mm/f4P to use in conjunction with my CV 40mm/f1.4...for my ZM. Perhaps a Leica 75mm to round out the package later, if CV still didn't have a nicer offering. I have now made a bracket to hold frameline lever at 28/85mm position [also posted in another thread].
It just so happens a loose (85%) 28/85 frameline is about a 30% under-coverage for both 25 and 75. 15% either side is a nice print-cropping margin.
If no ZMd is in sight soon, at least I could use the 25/40mm combo in an RD-1...38/60mm combo is nice enough.
