Although i love my Leica M9 i think it has it weaknesses, but the most important "flaws"
can be easily fixed by a simple firmware upgrade. The most ironic thing is that
this "problem" are actually caused by users asking for a higher resolution "zoom
in" function on the M9, before firmware 1.116 we had an instant sharp low res preview
but after this "upgrade" we have a good zoom preview but "stinky" instant preview
because it takes several seconds to render a sharp "high res" picture (from 3 to ridiculous 16 seconds for some images)
Try standing a whole day with a client who wants to see previews every 5 minutes
and you have to tell him that your 7000$ camera can't show a instant sharp preview
so you have to be really patient, i tell you this is really embarrassing...
So the only thing we need is a option in the sub menu "Auto Review" which gives
us the option to choose "High Res Preview" or "Low Res Preview" so the users with
the need for high res zoom can use this and the rest who thinks it is much more important
with a instant SHARP preview can choose this setting...it's beyond me that anyone
are willing to offer instant sharpness to 1:1 high res zoom, but that's another story...
I will send this to my contact in Leica Solms, and hope to get some feedback on this,
after all this will only strengthen the Leica M9, since it will be an option for both worlds.
All you need to do is say, YES or NO (even though i do not see any reason for saying
no in the case, since it will not take away anything, just add an option, a really important
option...so please just write a simple YES...

Well-known
The preview is horrid. But 90% of the time I use it to make sure my exposure is on. The other 10% I use the preview to zoom in and make sure my focus was on point. It's rare for people to ask to see the images.

Leica changed this behavior on purpose in a recent FW update.
Yes i know, and what a stupid thing to do...

I don't use the fog lights on my car much either but i would like it to work in a normal manner when i do need it, the preview on the M9 does not work as it should, and that is NOT ok, being one on the most expensive 35mm digital cameras on the marked...(if not THE most expensive..?)

Don't care
Don't care. Never had it take 16 sec, not sure if your camera is working right. And, I prefer the newer update because I can zoom in to check focus. Having said all of this, I rarely use LCD's on cameras except to look at the histogram. The M9 screen is so small and crappy why even look at it?

The resolution of the screen isn't very good to begin with but having an option for high low would seem to be an easy do so why not. I have very, very rarely ever had a client ask to look at my screen. They just figure they are getting what has been asked for. I do use it to check focus because even though it is low resolution I have learned to tell if the focus was on or not.

Yes, I guess so. If I am doing a job I don't want to have to start and stop while someone reviews things. If they want to do that they can grab a camera. :^) Now if there is something very specific or that I question what they really want, then I agree.

YES! 100% correct.
