Has anyone purchased a magazine from magcloud? Seems like a nice way to create a low circulation magazine using print on demand. Just curious what the quality is like?

The quality's good. Just order a sample issue or 2 (there are quite a few photo mags) & you can see for yourself.

I created an issue myself to test it out ( http://magcloud.com/browse/Magazine/80881 ), and was quite satisfied with the quality relative to other Print On Demand that I've seen.

How does Magcloud compare to Blurb? I'm looking for alternatives to Blurb after experiencing print quality issues with Blurb which they have so far refused to acknowledge.

For *my purposes*, both Blurb and Magcloud are giving me good and consistent results. Caveats, of course:
(a) For Blurb I use the "color managed flow" which at some point was available only in their B3 Business-to-Business program. That may have changed now.
(b) The work I had printed tends towards grainy, soft-focus, not-a-lot-of-detail look ( see http://www.jonasyip.com/paris-dialogues ). I have no idea how a highly detailed, exactingly color-balanced image will print.
(c) The work is monochromatic, but with a *brown tint*. Holding both versions in front of me now it is clear that the Blurb and Magcloud versions have slightly different tints. However, either version is fine on its own, and more importantly both have been *consistent* over multiple printings. Point here is that I don't know if either party can produce a perfectly neutral black-and-white, if that is a reqiurement.
In any case, it's cheap to try Magcloud and see for yourself since you get a free proof copy of the full "issue" just paying for shipping ($1.20 or something).

Hi Jonas, thanks for the info. My problem with Blurb is inconsistency - my latest books show a big drop in print quality from previous books - the pictures look as if they've been printed using a lower resolution setting - the halftone dot pattern is much more obvious than before, resulting in an overall "grainier/noisier" look.

I was searching on google for magcloud print qualities related topics for photography and found this thread. So if you say that print quality is fine, I am probably going to order some phootobooks, since they are so cheap.
