The Magnum Workshop Derby is a five day intensive, practice oriented
workshop focusing specifically on the popular theme of street
photography. The workshops will be led by three experienced Magnum
street photographers; Bruce Gilden, Richard Kalvar & Chris
Steele-Perkins, each with their own distinctive candid photographic
style. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to shoot,
polish and publish their work under the guidance of these experienced
practitioners.Aimed at photographers with a good understanding of
photographic practice, each Magnum photographer will lead intimate
groups of twelve individuals through an intensive program of shooting,
daily reviews, group critiques, mentoring, editing sessions and the
opportunity to learn amongst peers.Candidates will spend the five days
alongside their selected photographer developing visual language,
photographic identity, practical, technical and conceptual skills and
the expertise required to compete in a changing marketplace.Workshops
will be held in English and each class will be assigned a teacher?s
assistant who will aid both instructors and students with technical or
logistical questions and to help orientate students with local story
ideas. Participants will be asked to approach a photographic story in
Derby or the surrounding area in an informal ?street? photography
style.Candidates will also be actively encouraged to engage in and
