Hi all,

I have a Mamiya 6 (not the folder), which works very well. However, I have noticed something strange about the shutter:

When I press the button, I hear the barely audible click of the shutter. Then the advance lever locks up, and a moment passes before I hear another, louder click from the advance mechanism. Only then am I able to wind the film advance again and take the next shot. The longer the shutter is open, the longer this 'blackout' lasts. Yesterday I did a 60-second exposure, and it seemed like it almost took a full minute for the advance lever to be 'released' afterwards.
The shutter itself works fine, and the exposures are correct, so I guess the issue lies with the advance mechanism.

Does anyone else have this issue? Is it normal, or should it be considered a malfunction? If it's the latter, what would cause it?

Do a search for previous posts about this issue. I don't have a Mam6 but I recall it has something to do with a tiny shutter release / wind on magnet malfunctioning. Should be repairable if they can get hold of the part.

Thanks for your replies. I found a few discussions on the matter at APUG and Photo.net, which seem to suggest the same. Not good.
If any of you happen to come across some DIY repair instructions for this problem, I'd be happy to know about it.
If it can't be fixed by cleaning or lubrication, I guess I'll have to live with it or spend the money on a proper fix.

If anyone knows of a trustworthy repair place in Europe, I'm also in the market for that information.

One of my Mamiya 6 cameras also had this problem, except it sometimes resulted in slightly blurred photos. It is fixable, as I had it fixed last year (a magnet problem if I recall correctly) and also had a new winder assembly put in. Total cost was around $450.00.
