Mamiya 645 + Eye-level finder + Mamiya Sekor C 55/2.8
VS
Mamiya 645 1000s + PDS meter + Sekor C 55mm/f2.8

The Mamiya 645 + Eye-level finder + Mamiya Sekor C 55/2.8 is 257 USD.
The Mamiya 645 1000s + PDS meter + Sekor C 55mm/f2.8 is 255 USD.

As you can see, the price difference is very little, but I am not sure which one I should go for since this is going to be my very first SLR. Thanks 🙂

(Prices might seem to be "overpriced", this is because everything in Hong Kong is damn expensive haha)

Depending on the condition of either body...check out the film door's condition as a indicator of the camera's use/abuse...most likely the seals on both will need replacing.
I would go for the 1000s due to the few but important extras you get with it...
DOF preview, Self timer, 1/1000 shutter speed and lock on shutter speed dial...
I have the PDS prism finder that doesn't have the dreaded line on the mirror and the meter itself is pretty good...Battery in body needed for shutter and/or prism (depending on which prism)
You say Eye-level finder so I'm assuming you're talking about a meter-less prism finder...not the waist-level finder...the WLF can be bought for around $100 USD...
The 55mm 2.8 lens go for about $100USD
1000s bodies could go for around $150USD
The prices you're showing aren't that bad...
Lenses for this set-up sell for very little...almost all mine were bought for under $100USD and that included shipping...
45mm
55mm S (great lens)
70mm L/S (paid about $120)
80mm 1.9 (came with first body)
110mm (great lens)
145mm soft-focus
150mm
210mm

The 1000s is the better version of the camera (faster shutter), the PDS finder is the better version of the eye level prism (with meter), the lens is the same. If the condition is similar, there would be no point in picking up the lesser kit for more...

One last question. How big is the 645 1000s?/Dimensions? Just curious haha

its designed to be a handheld camera so not too heavy, but I find it a little awkward to hold because its feel longer than say a rolleiflex sl66 or a hassy. Its height feels right but its kinda long, kinda unbalanced. Go to Subway (the fast food restaurant) and get a half sub, bring it to you face and you will get a feeling about its ergonomics 😛

Try to get a small lens and you will get better balance

Its a great and fun camera by the way. My favorite 6x4.5 camera.

Hang on, your very first SLR? Or your very first MF SLR?

In terms of size, what else have you handled similar? Coming from an M3 it will feel immensely humongous! It's the size of 4-5 of them, plus a lens. Coming from a Hasselblad 500 it will just feel large. These are big cameras, but they feel nice to hold and use, as Sam says above.

Good luck and enjoy.

I never found mine to be a really good handheld but I owned the Pentax 645, which certainly is built to be handheld, so I am pretty sure I was biased.

I kept it for quite awhile because I liked the lenses but I did finally sell it. Still have the Pentax.

It's my first SLR. MF SLR 🙂

Not really bigger or heavier than a Hasselblad - indeed, it is quite the same size, but slightly lighter than a 500c/m with the same lens (by speed and focal length) and finder type. But it feels very different - probably due to the shift in balance.

1000s is not a light weight camera. I have it coupled to the Power Drive and the Cds Prism Finder. Could have saved some weight by using a the simple Prism Finder instead without the metering (I use a Quantum Calcu-Light XP for metering). But I guess the light meter in PD Prism Finder is better than the one Cds Prism Finder has.

Yea. The CDS looks bigger than the PDS, and also the light meter as you mentioned I guess 🙂
