I was wondering if anybody here has ever seen samples of those modified Mamiya 7s (or 6?) that could take digital backs. I would be rather curious how that turned out in practice, and who did this modification.

I think it was done to a M6 and the back was huge. Completely ruining the fact that the camera is a very portable, compact, fully professional tool with some of the best lenses ever made. Add to that fact that the lenses are not retrofocus, aside from the 150mm, and you would have severe vignetting like that seen on a Leica M9 when using a 21mm Super Angulon. It completely negates the utility and amazing image making qualities of the wide angle offerings by Mamiya.
