My Mamiya 7 has developed a problem, and I wonder if anyone has any suggestions.

I bought the camera in late 2012, and have been using it off and on since then. Recently, I began using it a lot more, to enjoy those lovely negatives.

Anyway, a few weeks back, I finished a roll and proceeded to load another. In the process, my film advance lever has jammed. Basically, I wound off the old roll, replaced the take up reel, and then tried to wind on the new roll, but the advance lever will not complete the wind. There is no tension on the lever, and when I move it, it gets to a certain point and won't go any further.

Essentially, the camera is useless now because I can't wind on film. The frame indicator is stuck on 'S', and the shutter release does nothing. Fresh battery installed with no effect.

I contacted Precision Camera Works, and they indicated that the camera may need a CLA and that hopefully the problem can be fixed during that process, but that it's possible that addition parts may be required. That sounds reasonable, but I'm a bit hesitant to spend a fair amount of money (close to $500, once you figure in shipping from Canada) on a solution that only "may" fix the problem (and to spend that much on a camera that is otherwise functioning normally). If additional parts are required, it's almost cheaper just to buy a used body here or at KEH.

I love the camera, but I know it's a fickle beast, and I'm just at a loss of what to do here.

Anyone experience this type of issue, and any suggestions? In searching the forums, I notice that there have been reports of issues with the shutter release, but I think this is a winding mechanism issue.

Can you send it in for a quote before deciding ? Would just cost the shipping both ways + a nominal fee. I know the Mamiya 6 used to have problems with the film advance breaking, but have not heard of this being a common problem with the Mamiya 7.
