Hi!
I just got a used M7(II) with the 80mm lens. Both in superb condition as it seems, the original owner has put only maybe 2 dozens of rolls through...
However, I noticed a weird sound coming from the 80mm lens (yes I tested the lens alone, so it's not from the body) when I move it around - sounds like a small ball / ball bearing rolling around. I never had the lens before so I'm wondering if this is normal? Do you also have this kind of sound? So far the camera seems to work well...
Thanks
salmacis
PS: I found a hint at a discussion here (http://photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/00US8c) that the sound comes from a ball bearing in the shutter curtain track, but really would like to hear also other experiences...

sound in your 80mm

perfectly normal. start to worry when it stops as it is time for a CLA. noise should be gone when you mount the lens.

it's definitely more quiet when i mount the lens but you can still hear a ball bearing sound. however, i managed to get hands on two other used 80mm lenses in a shop and they also have that noise. thanks for your answers, so it seems it's absolutely normal!

Another thing I noticed is that the small metal (silver-colored) roller in the wind-up (right) chamber can be pushed in/out quite easily. Not fully, but the top of the roller came out of the clip recently when unloading film. No big deal as it can be pushed back easily, but is that normal, i.e. 'by design' ? The roller in the (left) film chamber is firm though.
Thanks for your help!

well, the roller is not coming out in a friend's Mamiya 7, so I will have that fixed... a minor issue, could probably do it myself also, but maybe a pro should do it together with a general inspection... (maybe a good idea with a used camera anyway even if it looks perfect...)
regarding the sounds coming from the lens: you have that also with other Mamiya lenses not only the 80mm I guess?

I have had this same experience with brand new Mamiya 7 lenses.
