I have the finder for the Super 23; it's the big one with a shoe on top, a foot on the bottom, and frames for 6x9 and 6x7.

Could someone who has one of these in front of them tell me whether this finder had a flat spring clip above the foot (to keep it in a hotshoe that lacked a spring).

I seem to recall that an early one I had did have a spring clip and had a solid foot. The spring clip was inserted between the "leg" and the mounting foot.

It seems that my current one has a "cut" in the foot that looks like it could be used to bend a small strip of the foot to create spring tension. It does not appear to have had a spring clip (usually you don't see both together).

Ideas?

Thanks
Dante

Mine described here.

Mine described here.

My 65 finder has a chrome steel plate with a cut along one side as you describe. In addition on top of each side of the plate are thin springs that create pressure against each top side of the shoe. Those seem to be for the friction to hold in place.

Now, In addition, my shoe has an allen screw (hex) that screws through one side of the shoe to press against the side of the plate on the finder, pressing against the tab or cut side you mention.

Pics if you like. Let me know.

BTW, and you probably know this, the guy who probably has the best base of information on these Mamiya Press cameras is Anthony Sansone.. Tony. I'm about to get in touch with him to have him rebuild a Universal Press body for me, or to buy one of his rebuilts. He just sold me the format inserts for my multi format Mamiya Press back. 6x4.5, 6X6 and 6X9. New.

Hi Kuzano:

If you could send a picture of the spring (as assembled), I might have one in a bag of extra parts or just make one. I have been unable to find Mr. Sansone. Do you have any current contact info?

Thanks!
Dante
