It Is What It Is
Just found a rather large, but nice, tripod in my local 2nd hand store. This nearly-new pod is lacking only a plate to be complete. Got to say it is a heavy beast -16.4 lbs without the head plate!
This baby'll hold most any camera I've got rock steady, but don't think I' be toting it on any hiking trips. It's big, it's heavy, it's one well-built piece of hardware. Want to find a good(inexpensive) source of plates. They seem a bit scarce even on the net. Of coarse it's a special hex shaped thing. No universal fit here.

Nice find! If I'm going to use a tripod at all, I'll usually prefer a heavy one.

I have one I rarely use because of its weight. Love my 055 which takes my Norma 5X7.

The Manfrotto hex plate is actually very common. ebay has both branded and knock-offs.The catalog #'s for originals are 030-14 and 030-38.
The 14 &38 refer to the screw size in the plate.
