Hey all, any G2 users use the manual focus? I never really tried it until a friend recommended i use it, as i keep getting ever so slightly oof images. He says it's much more accurate/precise, especially in low light. So far, it's actually kinda fun lining up the focus...meter? at the bottom. I may get used to this :)

I use the rangefinder readout in the viewfinder only to check that the autofocus is on the correct thing when I focus on something I might miss (such as when I want to focus on railings and not the thing behind). The G2 will focus in the dark, so not sure why low light comes into the equation. So I guess that's a "no"! But if you enjoy using the manual focus then why not?

Hey JJ, yeah, up until now i typically just checked the readout in af mode. But i noticed on a couple shoots, many of the shots were focused on the person's ear or shoulder, rather than the eyes (and i made sure to prefocus on the eyes). I told my pal i figured it was back focusing...but he's convinced i need to try shooting in the manual focus mode *shrug*

I've never seen focus off with a G2 when the subject was in the brackets- I've shot a lot of frames with several bodies (4 over the years). I'd say make the focus lock button your friend!

My experience and comments are the same. The design of the camera insures that no manual focus method will ever equal the AF for precision.

thanks for the responses guys :) hmmmm, i ride that focus lock button, and tbh, they're not really far out of focus...just the diff between the eye and ear usually. Thinking about it now, it was typically only in low light that i experienced problems. Ahhh, passive AF hehe... Looking at my shoots in well lit situations, the images look great. I'll keep playing with it and let ya know how it works out! :)

Well, got some film back, and the shots with the 35mm look fine...the ones with the 45mm are ever so slightly out of focus (swapped back to regular af for those). I used that focus lock button like crazy, but to no avail :p maybe i should keep using it in manual focus mode :D
