I have relied on Mr. Hama for all my Yashica rangefinder CLAs (at least a dozen, to date). But I’ve been trying to get in touch with Mr. Hama for about a month now to check on the status of a camera repair on a Yashica YK. But I have been unable to connect with him via email or phone. I’m concerned not only for my order but for Mr. Hama as well. The last time we connected was when he quoted a price on a Mimy repair and CLA in early October.

Has anyone here been in contact with him in the last couple of weeks, or anyone know why he may be incommunicado? He’s always been very reachable in the past. I hope all is ok with him.

Stan, do post an update if you hear from Mark. He's been terrific for me as well, and always responsive.

I certainly will. I seem to remember reading in a post on a forum somewhere that he sometimes holidays out of the country. I’m about a 3 hour drive from Atlanta so if I don’t connect with him after the holidays I may scoot down there and knock on his door to check on him. He has the YK and I have several more Yashicas waiting for CLAs. If Mr. Hama is no longer in the business I don’t know who to turn to for my Yashica support.

I hope someone makes a photographic essay or documentary of Mr. Hama before he retires. As a human interest story it would be a good fit for one of the Sunday morning programs. He's a pleasure to talk to and has had an interesting life so far.

Update on Mr. Hama

Update on Mr. Hama

An update - I did hear from Mr. Hama today and the delay of the repair on my Yashica 35 YK is the availability of parts to repair the rangefinder. These cameras are not that common, so I will have to be a bit more patient. All is well with Mr. Hama.

Peter, what additional details do you need?

I just talked to Mr. Hama this afternoon about CLA of my Mamiya Press lenses. He says no problem unless there is fungus. Good for me, mine just need lubrication.

Just read a post on another forum dated in November last year that Mark is ready to resume receiving repair work. Glad to hear he’s back on the job. I’ve got a backlog .. .
