I had thought Leica and B&W were the only game in town, but there is a brand of UV/IR cut filters on eBay called Marumi. They are cheaper than the former. Has anyone tried them?

i've tried the uv filters, not the uv/ir, and they were fine.
can't say that i notice any difference from marumi, hoya, tiffen etc. to the b+w brand in day to day use.

I have used Hoya Hot Mirror Filters for many years with the DCS-200, DCS420c, and Nikon E3. These are all "first-generation" sensors and have weak IR cut filters. I use 52mm and 62mm Hot Mirror Filters, never had a problem.

Tiffen also makes them, marked 'standard hot mirror' and I've seen them go very cheap on ebay (under $10 for a 46mm.)

If the Marumi UV/IR cut filters are at the quality level of their Leica screw mount/M bayonet adapters, then they'll be OK.
