Hello everybody,

this is a sort of broad and general question, but I was thinking about RFF the other day and was wondering why I enjoy participating in this forum......first let me state that I do not read or participate in other photography forums (besides Flickr), RFF is really the only site that I visit, post photos, read about gear and get inspired by some beautiful photos that members post.

There are a lot of talented photographers here that live in different parts of the world and share their work with us and I really enjoy looking at their photos.....and there are so many knowledgeable contributors that post interesting information about such random things that concern Leica or just photography in general that I enjoy reading about......there are so many people on this forum that I look forward to reading their posts or checking out their photos that I can't even begin to start with their names because the list would be endless......soo many of you guys and gals on this forum rock for different reasons....

a special thanks to Steven for providing us with a place to hang out and talk about photography.....

I guess my question is, "Why do you participate in this forum and what do you get out of it?.....



.....one more thing......I have met and befriended a couple of members here in face to face meetings and I am grateful that I have gotton to know them.......lots of good folks on this site

No one outside of RFF understands what I'm talking about or cares, with regards to photography and camera gear.

A lot to be said for that as well. Although there are a couple of people here where I work that understand, even if they do prefer digital. One does dabble back with film. He recently found an Olympus Pen F and lenses sitting neglected in a thrift shop.
 
we are likeminded folks that appreciate the eccentricty of using rf cameras, be they digital or film...the world is a dslr place for the most part...and we are not.
 
I don't hang out here, it's not a "place". I just look in once in a while, and I do go to other forums. What I like about RFF is that people here are, well, just more sane and grounded than any other site I visit. I don't shoot a real rangefinder--can't afford a digital M and I'm not going back to film--but my contributions are accepted without issue and nobody puts me down because i don't have the latest and greatest. And while there is a lot of gear talk, when images are displayed the discussion is usually more about the image itself than the gear that was used to produce it--at the very least there's always a good balance in the discussion...
 
Because of the friendly people here. I can ask anything and no one get s boring. Also bad english is not a problem and so I learned a lot. Thank you all!
And a lot of good picture stuff!
 
... we're a bunch of pioneers drawn-up in our circle of wagons isolated in a veldt teaming with dslr wielding heathens ... so it's enlightened self interest I would think
 
Other than my significant other, I don't know anyone else who enjoys taking photos, collecting gear, film, etc. as much as I do. If I were to try to talk to my friends about things duscussed here, it would end in frustration on my end.. haha For example, I told a friend I was developing some rolls of film last night and had to go through the whole process for her to understand how I can develop film in a lit room..
 
And I should also add that the mutual support and willingness to share information makes this a place I want to come back to. Example: about a week ago I started a thread (at abt 25,000 ft) seeking advice on how to deal w/ the fact that I'd forgotten to take most of my film out of a bag I'd just checked on a flight from Stockholm to Oslo. By the time I landed, I had 3 replies, and by the time I got to my hotel I had another 6. Where else can one find that kind of support?
 
I no longer shoot an RF, I've settled on a Minolta manual focus system, but I still feel I relate to a lot of the discussions (I read them mostly, don't post too often).

I also like the gallery here - a lot of the photography I see is what I enjoy looking at, more than the other forum I visit.

Members are polite here, the "air" of well-behaving is maintained through wide variety of subjects discussed, lots of experience and knowledge shared.. Also, for me the RFF represents the whole era of photography in my lifetime and I still learn a lot here..
 
I like you people, primarily. I like your pictures, and I like to see and hear about the fancy and non fancy glasses. It's rare to see someone post Great Capture! I miss the pictures at the top, though.
 
When I first 'came' here, I was looking for advice on my first rangefinder trying to make up my mind whether to buy one. (I did.)

I 'stayed' because there are a lot of very good photographers who show their images here. And the percentage of pictures in the galleries that interest me is quite high: street/social documentary photography and other 'people photography'. And there are interesting discussions going on from time to time.
 
Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable members. As a newcomer to the RF world I have had generous responses to every question I have asked, whether about cameras, developing or printing. Lots of encouragement too, including comments on photos.

Plus, it is a blast to look through the exceptional photos in the galleries and the "themed" posts. Now that I have a flickr account I will try to contribute something on that side.

Plus, everyone here seems to be a little "off".
