Hey, this rangefinder http://static.photo.net/attachments/bboard/00P/00PK6s-43194484.JPG is available at my local store for £20, i have no experience with it and was wondering what you guys thought as every one on here is more experienced than me...

The Medis rangefinders are a bit less ugly than the more common Wata ones, and work just as well. 20 quid is a bit more expensive than average - if it is not in perfect condition, I'd skip that. There is one for 20€ on ebay right now, and in auctions they tend to go for about half that.

I only paid about £4 for a working/accurate rangefinder. Wasn't medis though.
That said I've only used it about twice so I was happy to pay so little.
If you need one for constant use then pay £20. Or else get yourself to the oldschool camera shops with drawers full of old stock and get a bargain one.

One important thing to keep in mind with accessory shoe rangefinders is the scale that they are incremented in (feet or metres) and does it match the camera(s) you wish to use it with. Metric rangefinders seem to sell for a higher price than imperial probably because there are less about. I have only come across one manufacturer who combined both scales.
The price for this Medis is on the high side, and for that price you would be able to get Voigtlander rangefinder and these are the most usable with a bright diamond shaped patch and being easily adjusted for infinity.
If you are set on this Medis then I suggest you check that you can see the images clearly and that they coincide at infinity. You may want to remove the knurled knob from the centre of the distance dial and check the condition of the head of the screw under it as this is the horizontal adjust. If the images are not vertically aligned then you will either have to put up with it or pull the body apart and that would really bemore trouble than it is worth in my opinion.
I hope this helps.

Sorry to necropost, but as my question is about Medis rangefinders and I think it's best to keep all info about particular things in one thread, I'm shoving it here:
I've just received a Medis rangefinder which nominally only has a tiny screw missing, however the rangefinder was out vertically and horizontally by quite a way. I've adjusted it so the verticals line up using the screw on the distance dial, but I can't get the rangefinder's image down to the same level as the real image.
There is a little screw between the eyepiece and the distance dial but all that seems to do when turned quite a few turns to the left is almost stop the rangefinder image moving when turning the distance dial. I've turned it to the right enough to engage the distance dial properly again.
Am I right in thinking the screw between eyepiece and dial is the adjustment screw for high/low rangefinder images?
Here's a pic of my version. Click on thumb for big version:
Anyone got any idea what can be done if this screw isn't working properly?
Any help would be much appreciated.
