Somebody did not bother telling the journalist that thermal imagery and infrared sensitivity are two completely different things...
Heated bodies can generate infrared, but IR != heat. The technologies needed to detect either are completely different.

'Far' infrared (also known as 'FIR' and Long Wave Infrared 'LWIR') are indeed infrared and are indeed used for thermal imaging. It is entirely appropriate to call them 'infrared cameras' in my opinion.
It can be confusing because IR covers a lot of spectrum. What we use for IR photography, however, is not what these men have been arrested for trying to take out of the country.

When any cameras will be prohibited to use anywhere, so many people will have opportunity to learn drawing, painting - isn't this great ? Until drawing will be prohibited (in favour of security, of course).
