I have a metal cassette for bulk loading 35 mm film. Recently I have noticed that the film got some unwanted dark spots on the edge, so the cassette does not exclude light perfectly. How could I determine the exact place of light leak for remedy?

Not knowing the quality of the cassette it would be hard to tell...and for the price of the cassettes it might not be worth looking into...I've been using the Kalt style with a nice overlapping lip on the cap...others have a smaller lip on them and don't feel as secure...I would also question the plastic ones too...
This is the style I have but unfortunately they are no longer available..

Are you talking about dark spots in the photo area or on the perforations' edge? Is it continuous from leader to end?

Can you show an example?

I use the ones linked above, they're still sold, just not with KALT label.

I've had atleast 5 rolls come uncapped in my bag. It's frustrating and expensive to lose a roll or two on a single trip.

I've glued mine together with a healthy leader poking out to tape my film to.

If it has a pop top, it's not worth the trouble IMHO, get the screw capped ones, or reload used commercial canisters. I'm going to try the FILCA's in the future.

I'm using old Kodak Rochester made metal ones. No light leaks, no uncapping. Well, only if I'll drop it on the asphalt and even then only few frames will be partially with light leaks.
KALT like I have as well, they are not even close to old Kodak made ones.

I am sure that the cassette is faulty. The perforated edge of the film is affected. There are about 5 dark spots. On the film leader’s end the spots are darker, and on the spool’s edge are lighter, so more and more layers of film are reeled on the spool and they diminish the light entered the cassette.
The cassette is Hungarian and was made for Forte Photochemical Factory.
