I have just acquired a Minolta 700 si, has anybody had experience of this camera, and are the expansion cards really necessary I have been involved in photography for many years both with film and digital and I have several cameras, but just saw this one cheap and it looked a really nice camera,
any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nigel!

If your camera is in full working condition, congratulations!
I have 3 of these in less than nicer condition.
It is a very nice camera to work with, very nice specs.
If you don't have the manual, this is available online from various sources.
If you want to use AA batteries, I recommend the VC-700 grip.

About the expansion cards, they aren't really needed, unless you want even more features. some are more useful than others and it depends of what you want to do.
These are the ones I have and use.
Custom XI - it allows you to change some features and the way the camera operates. It is the mos useful for me.
Multi-Spot - a nice feature and makes you think you have an OM-4. It can be very useful.
Data 2 - memorises the data for several film rolls. Can be a nice addition.

Enjoy your camera!

If a previous owner changed settings using the Custom xi card, you can't get them back to the default without a card. Otherwise a great camera with quiet, fast focusing and shutter. 1/8000 sec sync with the 5400hs flash.
