Hi,
Having issues with my Minolta auto meter III. Has been working fine up til now, but now when I take a meter reading, the LCD flashes for about ten seconds, but no reading is taken. My settings are well within range. Have tried resetting everything, removing the battery, no dice.
Any advice?
Thanks,
jonathon

Check the battery. The IIIF eats batteries like crazy, even when "off". I also think there may be a reset procedure, but I may be mistaken and don't recall what it might be.

If a repair becomes necessary and you're in North America, I can recommend Quality Light Metric in Los Angeles. I've had a Gossen Ultra Pro repaired there. The work was excellent and the turnaround time quite reasonable.

I just bought one cheap on eBay where the seller described the same problem. When it arrived the battery was flat <3.5V! (should be 6V). Put a new battery in and it was fine but I took the battery out again until such time as I go out with my Autocord and need to use the meter.

As mentioned, it just means you need a new battery.

Well, that's good news! Now I just need to hunt down this funky battery type.
Thanks all for your help.

Be prepared ... they're not cheap. I'm thinking of trying the lithium type, if available. If I have time for shipping, I like 24hourbatteries.com

Nothing too funky about the battery. The same one is used by most (if not all) A series Canon SLRs and the Bronica SQa. Calumet have them and so do a few other shops in the UK.

In the UK almost all branches of Boots stock them.
