Missed this one...!

What a find. It would have been very difficult to spot this one with just the description "camera" as the title.

Can anyone tell if this is a genuine black S2 ? The serial number according to the description is 6180960.

another novice seller listening to the fast talking "expert buyers". Went to a ebay dealer. will be back on ebay in a couple months

Yep. Worst mistake is admitting in the auction you don't know anything about what you are selling.

The seller must have been delighted to get a quick sale and is probably more than happy with the price he/she got. The buyer must be thrilled with what may be the bargain of the year.

Why wasn't I looking at the thousands of auctions that have "camera" in their title ? :bang:

I wonder where this could have gone with a proper title like "vintage black Nikon S2" and a regular auction, not a buy-it-now.

Anyone like to venture a price for the camera and for the black camera case ?

The starting price was $1000 buy it now $1700 ,
So I thought it might be a repaint . It is a real black s2
In the time it took to consult Roberts book it was purchased at the buy it now
So I was close , but did not need more film cameras .
Sold within a half hour of listing .

The shutter had mold on the curtains and the two lenses had fungus .
Still a great deal . Cleaned up worth a lot more .

The camera is back up for sale on eBay , $25,000 buy it now .
Better pictures and listed under Nikon rangefinder .
A great deal at the $1700 original price on eBay .
The price is insane at $25,000 .

I seem to recall this on RFF recently. Am I right? :)

The mini finder is quite rare .
A mint one in the box went for $900 recently on eBay .
Usually they are in the $575 - $ 800 range .
For $89 the one on eBay was a deal .
Unlikely you will ever see another at that price .

eBay can still be a place for some bargains if you are willing to spend endless
Hours searching for them . When they come up buy it now they go quick .

I had posted one in rff classifieds recently , yes you are correct.
Decided very shortly to keep it .
My first one I purchased in the original blue box for $20 1974
Sold for $35 in 1981 .
Since then I have had 4 .
I have paid $700 for them , and I have paid $250.
It's that one item I keep buying , then selling .
It always does not seem worth the price , however
The camera , 3.5 lens and mini finder is such a compact package .

Since it was part of my original kit in 1974 it has a special place .
2 black dial Nikon s2 body's , 5 cm 1.4 , 3.5 cm 2.5 , 2.8 cm 3.5 ,
Mini finder , leitz black 28 bright line .

Still have the one black dial s2 with the 5 cm 1.4 from 1974 kit, all these years .

I bought a Leica m5 with a 35 summilux , $650 in 1981 . So sold most of the Nikon kit . Wish I still had that m5 and lens .

Oh yeah. You had one posted here not long ago, right?

Should be interesting to see how many offers he gets.

There are a couple problems with the camera on eBay .
The main problem is the back , which is in all probality not original .
The made in Japan engraving was only on later Nikon sp and s3 backs .
The Asa dial goes to. 1600 which was later also . The opening key has a
Chrome lever , as far as I know all black s2 had black paint lever .
The wear on the back is a lot less than the camera .
Also the price is very high compared to past sales and current listed cameras .
I still think the price is a typo and the real price is $2599.50
Or $5995.00 maybe they are just seeing what offers are made .
Still original black paint Nikon , Leica and canon are not worth
The prices of 10 years ago now .
At that point black paint cameras were going very high .
