MoMa offers free course: Seeing Through Photographs

I will check this out thank you.

I have taken courses through Coursera and recommend them.

As to why few have responded, in my experience people prefer ignorance. They'd far rather curse the darkness than light a candle. It's not that they are stupid, it's that they are lazy and scared.

I'm hoping there's a way for me to get the reading assignments onto my iPad so I can read them on my train commute. I really enjoy reading about photography, so I think this course will work well for me.

Peter...many thanks for the link...hadn't seen it elsewhere...I signed on for the certificate for the pleasure of accomplishment and to make sure I stick with it...

I've been curious about Coursera, so I signed onto this.

Skimmed through the course, viewed some of the video interviews and checked out the reading materials (the scanned book pages are not the easiest thing on the eyes). A lot of it, I've read before but but a lot is also new to me. Don't know that i would go through the entire thing, but will definitely read more.

Johnwolf, I think you can download the Coursera app and save the readings to ibooks for reading off-line.

Thanks for the link.

The reading assignments are PDFs, so I was able to get them into my iPad reader. My train ride reading for the week. I haven't had homework for decades.

Well I saw this today but I tought it is too late for sign up, beggining was 10.2. Am I wrong? I dont have much expirience with online courses so... :)

I'm now on lesson three, trying to finish a lesson each week. I would like to recommend Szarkowski's intro to Winogrand from "Figments of the Real World." I don't think it's a required course reading, but it's worth your time.

I don't own many of the referenced books, so it's great to have all these classic readings available in PDF form.

Any other favorites you've discovered through the course?

John

I just signed up and checking it out.
Closed captions are excellent (they look scripted, rather than phonetic), so I will likely stay with it.
