Help, help!

I was planning to send my MM for a CLA at the nearest Leica service center (HK), I've been seeing these nasty sensor dust spots that can't be removed by the usual bulb blower. When I emailed to the authorized Leica service center (HK), with the attached screenshot below, the reply was;

"Dear Dave,
I think that your sensor problem should be sensor coating problem and that must need to replace a new sensor.
As the sensor from Leica Germany was lack of supplying so all of our customers might take around 6 months for new sensor replacement so that you cannot take it back before <date>.
This replacement will be free of charge as this sensor problem was under Leica goodwill service.
However, you need to collect it back by yourself or the person you authorized after repair as we do not provide delivery service to oversea countries."

I'm not quite convinced on the "sensor coating problem" as stated above. Need your advice on what to do next... I can't imagine having w/o my MM for the next 6 months, but if this is the best way to move forward, then I'll have to do it...

hi dave,
whether it's the sensor coating, can be verified by inspecting the sensor. a photo is not a definitive indication, but it usually gives a clue.

i had that sensor coating problem last year, and i got it fixed by sending the camera to leica in germany, where they replaced the sensor. the turnaround time was much better then, however.

cheers,
s.

Thanks for the input, I'll definitely will have it checked first, then weigh my options.

I would contact Leica directly and explain your issue. If you were in the USA as I am I'd talk Leica USA as I've had my sensor replaced in my M-E by them in less than 3 week turn around. But I'd assume the MM may be a different situation.

I too did not want to give up my camera for any amount of time and I surely understand your concern.

However, in the end Leica will remedy the problem one way or another.

Duane, thanks! I will do as you advised. I'll wait for the Leica store to open this end of October here in the Philippines, and let's see what they can do. The option to send to HK is still a viable option.

Not to be sarcastic, but if Leica offers a diagnosis, don't you think that you should believe them?

I guess we all seek second opinions, but if it's under warranty, I would send it to Leica.

What a shame Dave, but I believe the Leica diagnosis as that is exactly what happened to my M-E. It took about 4 months for it to be repaired (sent to Leica HQ in NJ, I am in Los Angeles) as they were waiting for parts.
Good luck.
