More praise for Youxin Ye

Just wanted to give another push for Youxin Ye. I have an M4 that needed shutter adjustment -- it was clearly running too fast and firing with a pronounced "snap."

I called Youxin Ye and he told me to bring it by his office (day job) yesterday. I picked it up TODAY, fully adjusted, sounding normal, and now within tolerance. He said it was easily running 1/3 too fast before.

Granted, it helps to be within a 20 minute drive to his office, but still, what service!

Good guy, good work. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again.

I'm thrilled to know Youxin Ye is in the Hub, I've been wanting to get my M3 dealt with for a while, and knowing I may be able to go to a local guy with a worldwide good rep is great. I read somewhere he does not work on M5s but I hope I can at least get him to verify the shutter speeds.

I got in touch with Youxin a couple of months ago to work on some lenses for me, but they were too new for him. Here's the first sentence of his reply:

"I only work on classic M cameras M4-P or older and limited classic lenses."

He lives in Canton.

Sent him a M3 DS with some crud in the rangefinder (making the 50mm framelines faint), horizontal adjustment out at infinity, and the shutter showing all the signs of needing a CLA. He replied to my initial email within an hour, and I sent it to him on Monday, from Chicago. He had it open Thursday and sent me the news: A CLA and a missing frameline mask spring (bad repair?) would put it into working order. Cost with return shipping 100.75! On the next Thursday UPS showed up at my house with the camera. I opened the box to find the camera with a crystal clear viewfinder, perfect framelines and with a butter smoothness to the film advance that is amazing. Wonderful work, exceptional communications and a very reasonable price... Mr. Ye is a treasure if you enjoy these old Leicas, and I think he truly appreciates the cameras (and the owners of said cameras) he works on.
