Most Viewed Photo For Week Ending 12/1

Nothing wrong with a pat on the back, and that's about the level of my criticism as well, but I was kind of hoping that a member with a gift for analysis could explain why this photo works so well.

this particular shooter is one of my favourites.
in general she has an ability to capture small stories in one frame.
i like the use of black & white, usually a night scene and a grit in the texture of the film that seems to match the grit of the content of the scene.
this particular shot pulls me in as the main human subject is close to the viewer (and photographer) but also he is only part of a larger scene that is the real subject of the frame, the street at night.
while this is shot in nyc (my home town) it could have been taken in any number of cities around the world so it also has some universal appeal.
i would love to go back home and spend some time shooting with tatianashe.

Well I'm certainly not gifted but I'll try and elaborate...
The subject appears to be walking into the frame, which gives the image a feeling of movement and of a caught moment. He appears to have an expression of curiosity, which lends an interactive feel to the photo, like he is considering engaging the photographer.
My favorite part is the person crossing the street at the right. He looks like he's walking with a jaunty gait while whistling a tune and thinking about rainbows or something!
To me this illustrates the schism between the well-off and not-so-well-off. Two different worlds co-existing on the same street!

It works for me because it says big USA city in the twenty first century.

In the same way Cartier-Bresson said European city in the 1930's.

This photographer is going to go places.

Please do this again next Saturday steamer.

I know there has been limited participation, but Gallery Picks went through a low patch and now seems to have revived.

There was even a recent critique thread.

Persevere.

I would certainly agree with this. Tatiana has an excellent eye for moment and composition and I've commented on a number of her gallery posts but not this one. For me this picture invokes fear and in a sense that is written all over the photograph - it looks like it was taken very quickly and I don't blame her for that! Indeed it seems to me she was very brave to take the picture at all... This would be truly stunning though if either the foreground plane or the background plane of focus were a little sharper.

I propose the 'formula' for selecting our photo tomorrow, and in the future, should be:

Gallery | Recent Photos 7 Days | Sorted by Most Viewed > Last Week > Descending

This is in fact what I did last week, this week. it wasn't working so I had to go through the last 7 days manually.

There has to be a reliable way to do this, as manual searching is too tiresome.

Memphis, and other image centric types, can you help steamer here?

It just failed on me. First up top I choose 7 days.

Then on the bottom of that sort,

Views last week descending.

I got the images from the last 7 days, but the sort by views didn't work.

The sort by views was screwed up I think the actual most viewed was on page two or three, this time. It worked fine last week.

Yes, I did the same sort as rover yesterday and thought I saw the most viewed photo from the past week.

Then today I saw that steamer had done the work manually and got a different (and correct) result.

Stephen / Jorge: This needs to be fixed. If we are becoming more image aware we need to be able to access the image database in a reliable and consistent manner.
