Hi all
In the next month, I will move with all my family to Ann Arbor, Michigan.
I would love some advices, photographic advices...
First: would you know where I can have access to a good darkroom there?
Is there on on the campus?
Thanks
Michael

DON'T DO IT!!! :bang:
There will only be snow on the ground and a bunch of dead trees to photograph...
Come on out to sunny California...plenty of empty houses out here and no snow...

Ann Arbor is a college town, and it is wonderful. You'll love it. Michigan is a beautiful state, as well.

It is one of the nicest towns in the mid west; lots of gorgeous houses out by the university, rambling farmhouses further out. The local gene pool is regularly refreshed with an influx of students (which is a very good thing).
A couple of VERY good bars, including Ashleys (I am proud owner of a nifty beerglass you get after sampling 100 beers, not bad for a 5-day trip), plus the Blind Pig.
There's a very good antique/junk mall, plus one of the best delicatessens in the states. And a legacy of great music from the MC5 and the Stooges. What's not to like?
(steer clear of the drugs, though)

Also home to The Ark. There is not much better if you like real music.

Learn to love Football! Shoot people at the game, not the game itself.
Do not buy a home if you can avoid it, rent for a bit, buy in the spring or summer.

Heh, I spent my first 8 years in Ann Arbor, and still have little photo albums (that came with film processing) with the Quarry Photo name on them.

I only visit there with my wife (a Wolverine!, usually for homecoming), but it would be hard to top for football (soon to be even larger):

We're all light!
My one and only visit to Ann Arbor was cold, but very pleasant (stayed a weekend with friends of my then-girlfriend in January 1990, arriving in my sort of style, aboard Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited). Really liked the vibe of the town and people, and bought an armful of vinyl at one of the nicest record shops I'd ever dropped into (straining to remember the name...wonder if it's still around?).
I would guess that, if you're moving to Michigan, you could certainly do worse. (But I won't dis Detroit too much...I remember my own Fun City in the bad old 70s...)

My M5s need red dots!
Welcome to the midwest and its inclement climate!
But then, what would we talk about if it weren't for the weather?
I'm a bit far, but always wanted to go there. Who knows? I may have a chance this summer...

It's very close to Dearborn, Michigan which is a fascinating city - there is a huge Arab-American population there with many great restaurants and sweets-shops. Also the Arab American Cultural Center is very much worth visiting, not to mention all the Detroit museums.

That's where I learned photography–in that darkroom. I think it's for students only–there was always quite a demand and you needed to be enrolled in a credit course to use it. The darkrooms on the arts campus were easier to get in and out of, but that was ten years ago, and things may have changed since then.
I would be surprised if there wasn't some kind of community darkroom, or maybe some way to get access at one of the high schools. Just look around... and if you want to ask some questions, Mike, the professor whose email is on the linked page here, is a very nice guy and might be able to answer some of your questions.

Thanks, folks...
I know about the economic situation there, and the temperature seem to be the main drawback...
But I have a University contract for a visiting position. It should be cool.
Hope so...
Thanks for the link!! I'll try to see if I can get there.
