Hey everyone,
I'm new to RFF and I really enjoy this forum. I just picked up an MP that I'm currently using with a Canon 50/1.4 LTM. While I really like the camera, I don't much care for how the vulcanite, or whatever it's called, feels. I'm thinking about changing it, but don't want to devalue the camera in any way.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Steve

Well, it is your camera and it is a film camera.
You can do anything with your camera as you want.
It is going to change value by itself.
Also, Leica had a custom " a la carte" program, where you could select different coverings, for a cost of course. I don't know if they' do a pre-owned camera, but you could contact them and ask.
My favourite covering was Levant black leather, from www.cameraleathers.com. It is a luxurious leather covering. You install it yourself.

Previous owner of my MP replaced the cover with Griptac. Don't know if it changed overall value but I sure appreciate it. That makes it valuable to me.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. I can really sympathize with you about the factory covering on the MP. It's slippery and feels nothing like a Leica should feel in the hand. My solution for now is to use it in a Luigi half-case. I would change it to a griptac or other nice cover, if I felt confident I could get the old cover off. For now, I just use it in the leather half-case.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the half case may be worth a look. I like the Luigi with the built-in grip.
I was also checking out camera leather and they have a recovering service which I would probably take advantage of as I wouldn't trust myself with such a beautiful camera. I know I need to do something as this covering leaves quite a lot to be desired. It's interesting that Leica chose this material for such an expensive body.
