Hello all! I just picked up a demo black MP $2500USD (full warantee) and demo 35mm F2 ASPH $1500USD (full warantee) from a UK camera store. They were last ones. I do notice that Robert WHite has one more Leice MP chrome .58 for 2500USD wit full warantee if anyone is looking (drill down menus in the new M camera section.)

Now the advice part..... I am new to the MP world, did I make a good camera choice? Being 42 and hoping this setup will last me forever? I am mostly a Mamiya 7II shooter but will be giving that format up as I want something a bit smaller and i have a Gowland ultralite 8x10 if i ever need huge enlargements.

The prices seem to be quite reasonable especially with the full warranty included. I would expect them both to be in Mint condition though ;-)

Does not look if they were ever opened. the 35mm and MP have shiny black paint if that makes any difference.

I'm very jealous. I want an MP so bad, but I have to save.

I say you got a great deal. I also thought you made a wise choice for durability.

How much was the overseas shipping charge on the outfit? For U.S.-based buyers, does anyone know what the import duties are on a $2500 camera or lens? This info is harder to find than I expected.

In the world of Leica Ms, the MP, M2 and M3 are rightly regarded as the holy trinity. So, there is no doubt that you made a very wise choice indeed ;) Ok, that analogy is over the top, no offense is intended by it; but seriously, from my own experience with a few different MPs, I can say the MP is a damn fine light tight box. The big thing is get out and enjoy it...the pleasure of owning a MP is found most of all in the use.

Some advice from me : shoot, shoot, shoot - the MP needs at least 200 rolls through to break in, from that point on it gets better with use. At the beginning mine was a bit on the edgy side of mechanics, allthough I bought it used already. Enjoy , and yes it will last a lifetime - w/o any firmware update or scratch resistant screen cover :D.

There are no import duties on goods coming in to the USA-we only pay shipping costs.

The price for the black paint MP is good but the price paid for the black paint 35 ASPH is beyond excellent. They were made in small batches. Well done. Now...get 'em brassy.

I don't think you pay anything on this combo. I've purchased items from London and Japan (Leica flash and Sigma lens, respectively), and never was I requested to pay a dime. Rest assured, order in peace from a store overseas.

EDIT: I replied in haste and didn't see that the question had been answered already. Oh, well... Now you've heard it twice, here, at the RFF! :)

Thank you Francisco and Bob, it's good to have this information confirmed. Looks like I'll be selling a bit more gear to get what I'm after, but I'll have to do it quick!

To the OP, you have made a fantastic purchase. My MP gets a lot of use, and it is simplicity itself.

Ma, you're going to love this camera. If I could keep just one of my cameras, film and digital, it would be the MP.

I would love to get that 0.58x at Robert White, but I just can't afford it right now. Then I would sell my 0.58x M6 TTL.

Congrats on the MP - I love mine (.72x VF). I would love to grab a 0.58X VF MP if I could only find that ad from Robert White. I don't see anything for a .58x VF MP in the classified ads for sponsors or regular film bodies...

From the UK, the first $800 is duty-free, above that I think you pay a flat rate (maybe 10%) of the next $1,000, and then some other rate for amounts above that. That's whether you ship it or carry it yourself. CBP can tell you how much.
