Mr Zhou's half case for Bessa!

yeah! i can't wait to get it in the mail, my camera has been pretty much naked since i got it. will be posting photos once it arrives! =D

Nice case. I like the right thumb rest on the back.

IMHO, it looks even better than the Luigi's case that I have.

I'll ask one with RED Stitches.. :) hope it's available..
R.

he doesn't seem to have any listed yet, perhaps its not available?

anyways zhou is pretty responsive and good to deal with, he replied my inquiries about a bessa case really quick. i was prepared to buy a voigtlander sidegrip but i held out for that when he replied and told me he was gonna make a half case! have tried his cases for leica Ms and they felt good. looking forward to some added stability with my nokton 50/1.1!

Chiif cameras will have them by this friday, i am going there to collect my rd1s case which he ordered on my behalf.

What would have been really neat is if he could have somehow incorporated (stitched in) a small metal bracket on each side that offered strap attachments points that are set back just a tad and so resolved the balance problem we all have with the Bessa bodies unless we've got a huge lump of glass on the front.

I have seen these on Taobao (chinese equivalent of ebay) for months now. I never used a case like this on a camera, though I have been seriously tempted for one on my bessa r2a or whenever I get around to buying an m8...on that thing

I saw a fellow a couple years ago with one that said rangefinderforum.com on the bottom of it but it was on an m6.

just received mine in the mail! here are some of my impressions (and photos!) :

case looks pretty solid and well made, leather is pretty nice and about 2.5mm thick (using my guesstimation)

this is the part i was most afraid of, the loops that go over the metal lugs. due to the thickness of the leather used, it kind of obstructs my voigtlander wide strap (the strap cannot be hung properly... can't find the right words to describe this). could it be solved by cutting off the piece of leather bumper from the strap? have the urge to try and see, but dont have the heart to cut my strap leh. should fit without any problems with gordy's strap if you use the one with the waxed string!

yes, the case does have a gap at the back, due to the built in grip of my R2A. can EASILY be remedied by peeling off the rubber grip, lol.

in all, i'm liking the case but i just can't help but wonder if zhou could have made the lug loops a little wider to accommodate more strap types. just my two cents!

I received my case from Mr. Zhou on Friday. It only took about 2 weeks to arrive from China. I think it's very well made and an excellent case at any price (but the price is great!). It gives my Bessa a little of the "tactile" quality I've alway felt it was missing. Very pleased with it.

Thanks Zhou, it was nice meeting you and hope next time we can at least have coffee or lunch!

Thanks for the info re this case. I am about to order a Bessa and would appreciate it if any of you could confirm that if you get the leather half case that you don't need the sidegrip. Or would it be good to have both to have options.
Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam. At this stage, I would choose one or the other. The sidegrip improves the ergonomics better than the case, but the case isn't bad, and is a definite improvement over having nothing. I have both, and I'm currently enjoying the case more for purely aesthetic reasons. Pick whichever you think you will like more - you'll be fine with either.

I have an M9 half case from Mr. Zho and it is beautifully crafted. It fits quite well and is easy to remove for battery and memory card removal and replacement. In addition, Mr. Zhou is a class act. Great all around.
Rich
