Hello,
I wonder what will you do...
You have no idea how the new M9 mean to me and I was let it crash on the ground while trying to pickup my son to bed.
The camera is fine but it has a little chip on the edge top left, just a small damage but it greatly reduce my joy with the camera
I emailed Leica and they said the warranty will not cover, I can however send it i and they can give me an estimate...
So, The camera is fine, but just a little damage, look not too bad...
So it it were you,
- You keep go on using it?
- Send in for repair with a cost?
- or try to repaint or cover it yourself?
- Bring it to local Leica guru to fix it?

I am very sad, My wife was going to buy me a Rolex (for anniversary) but I said I want an M9 so she did, and now I don't know how to tell her :(
Please give me some idea or at least comfort me :)
Best regards
Sonny
PS: is anybody get an idea how much will it cost if I send in for repair? I guess they will just replace the top steel cover?

A little chip?
I would probably live with it. Call a local guy if it really bothers you but you're looking at a few hundred dollars/pounds/pesos if you send it to Leica as they would probably replace the top steel cover like you say.

Don't bother! You will have the camera for many years, and this is just the first of many blemishes that will give it character. If you pay money for a cosmetic fix, you'll just want to do the same next time you damage it.

Be glad you've already passed this milestone.

I don't even know how to respond to this. Get the little chip fixed and lock it away in a sealed, hydrogen gas filled glass case. It will retain its beauty forever, without diminishing your joy.

Modern times. sigh.

Perhaps nitrogen would be slightly less volatile.

I scratched my car door the other day. Car's useless now.

Should have taken the Rolex ... then you would have known when it was time to get an M3 and a brick of Tri-X.

Facetious comment sorry!

Seriously ... it had to happen sooner or later. :)

Thanks for so many response in a very short time,
Yes, Thanks to you guys, I feel a bit better now... and I take your advise not to fix it.
You know the frustration, just a little less than 1 week and I have crash, I own many other Cameras and I never crash them before :)
I am owning Canon 1dsMk3, Hassy H2D, Panasonic GH2 (just sold M8)... so I have enough camera for photography, I currently treat the M9 like a jewelry, that's why......guess I am beginning to use it more now
Thanks again guys!

Live and learn: either carry a camera or a kid, but never both at the same time. Or suffer the consequences!

Anyway, welcome on the forum (I sincerely hope this event was not your only reason to come here), show us some shots made with your M9!

Thanks, you're right, lesson learned
I bought a used M8 just a month ago and immediately felt in love with Leica digital, then decide to go M9, my wife is a singer, on tour in Germany, I ask her to find me an M9 and she did... I was really happy and then bam, :bang: you get an idea...
I will certainly post pictures and participate more since I am now officially an M9 user. Thanks for the welcome!
Best regards
Sonny

I do have an M3 and M4, and a CL :)
Thanks
Sonny

I feel for you about damaging something as soon as you get it because it does sort of take the gloss off it ... but it sounds like you have plenty of other really nice gear.

Welcome to the forum by the way and I hope you took no offense at our good natured ribbing. :)

My sympathies, just4fun.

However, every time you see the chip on your M9, you will remember your son and trying to pick him up. That cannot be all bad. Time flies.

the first cut is the deepest ... but it is a tool and if it works I would take pics;
nevertheless I'm sorry for you

My friend, who regularly buys new cars, says that he can not relax until he gets his first bump or scratch (an inevitability in Slovakia - but that's another story!)
It is only after the anticipated blemish that he can truly enjoy his purchase.
I suggest you do the same :)

That is why I always buy nice prescratched cameras and lenses (not the glass tough )

Barbara Streisand's "Second hand Rose" That's me. :D

Nevertheless I feel your pain, time will heal this and I commend you for holding on to the Kid.

Perhaps nitrogen would be slightly less volatile.

Helium is best. Nitrogen is capable of entering into a reaction. Helium, having a complete outer shell, cannot.

@ the OP: you are now free to use the camera without worrying about damaging it. You have been freed from the burden of perfection. Relax.
