My 90/2 Macro Zuiko rattles, but looks like it is supposed to.

The rattle is the rear optical group and it looks to be of a floating element design.

The rattle is the play in the group, to allow it to move.

Who would have thought ?

Rattling of the type you describe does NOT sound normal. Shook my 90mm vigorously and the only sound I heard was a faint metallic pinging of the aperture assembly. Maybe you should get your lens checked out.

"Floating elements" to my knowledge should not make noise. They're not "Loose". They move differently in relation to other optical groups within the lens, improving resolution at specific distances. Usually close focus.

Just checked. My Zuiko 90/2 Macro also has a slight rattle when shaken. But then, all of the Zuikos that I just shook have a slight rattle. I cannot tell exactly what is rattling, but I am pretty sure that it is the mechanism that moves the diaphragm.

Whatever rattles does not affect the image quality of the 90/2 Macro - it is one of my all-time favorite lenses.
