My Contax II arrived... It's a beauty!

It left Ontario late last month, so I wasn't expecting it so soon... From what I've read the G before the serial # dates it to 1938, which probably makes it my oldest usable camera. How it managed to stay in such good condition all these years is a mystery to me because it's a beauty! Seems to check out functionally, so I'm happy all around!

OK, I should just curl up and die. Unless C or N plan to come out with something with equivalent industrial design. Yeah.

Thanks Joe! I always knew that this is where the Kievs would lead me... Last month it was a 2a, and now this! I'm definitely a happy camper... Now on to my search for a Sonnar 1.5/50.

That 's a beauty Contax II, Peter! I've got one headed to me in Ontario, from the U.K. I've got an Aki-Asahi black lizard emboss leather ordered for it already, as it suffers from those pesky Zeiss bumps.
 
Frank, leave the bumps on the camera! They're the beauty spots that you'll miss once you get removed ;)

I haven't seen 'zeiss bumps' on the front of a camera before. Not looking at enough Contaxes I guess... that will change! Mine has a couple on the back & I agree that they can add character, but if they were ugly they would probably go.

You call those bumps? Those aren't bad at all, and your cover is in great shape. I'd leave those. Really nice camera, Peter!
 
Good god ... that looks so much like my new Kneb it's uncanny :eek:

Maybe we could instigate a breeding programme ... your Contax - my Kneb. I'm sure there would a lot of RFF takers for the puppies!

:) The only problem would be that the poor little buggers wouldn't know whether they were Arthur or Martha... I guess they would be stamped "Made in Germany &/or Ukraine" :D

Hey Phys, nice Contax! It is amazing how well the chrome on these things holds up over the years. Enjoy.
 
I received the sonnar in the post. So much for it replacing the one I already had!! It's got the "lens cleaned with sandpaper" look. :bang:


I hope they took better care of the Contax you'll receive :)
 
Sorry to hear that, Ash. Test the lens anyway, and see how it does, you may be surprised. It was a gamble, and I know my Contax body has issues.
