It took a dive off the table in my favourite cafe the other day - which is one drop too many for the poor dear. The RF is waaaay out and I can't get it aligned, the self-timer lever is broken and the shutter speeds are now completely out of this world.
Thing is, it'll be cheaper for me to get a new one from Oleg than having this sent off for fixing. The lens on this one was crap anyway!
Oh well. One more pretty camera for the shelf... :bang:

Considering the situation, I'd say a replacement is in order. There are plenty of 2's on ebay for as little as somewhere in the twenties. I doubt if repair costs would equal that.
There's a thread on the Pop Photo forums right now about Russian RF cameras. Depending on whom you listen to, they range from useful to "cult material" to junk. They do make at least a nice collection of German copies.
After buying several Zorkis and three Kievs, I'm into FED 2's myself right now. Want to get some of the various rainbow of colors. Since I have Zorkis from 1 to 6 except for a 2, I decided to go FED for a change for colored ones.

They are even more fun to put back together. Whatever you do don't dump it. I have just got 3 "parts" Fed 2's for about $10. I am going to use them to practice some paint jobs, maybe even an outlandish funky one! If they look allright, I will transpose the body parts onto a good one and if I get bored I can always put it back to original. The other parts may also provide udeful spares, if not to you, to someone else. I have a very good working relationship with my "pro" repair man and we are swapping bits fairly often.
Slightly OT and showing my ignorance, who is Oleg and do you have a URL for him.

I'm definitely getting another FED 2, probably two of them. The dead one will stay on so I can get bits off it if I need. I am also still being tempted by the Zorki 1... :bang:
