Just received my Fed 2c and its a beautiful camera!! It came with a manual in Russian.......I am able to figure out most of the operation but at what speed does the flash sync on this camera? Also does anyone know where I might get an English version of the manual?

Thanks....as always a great forum!!

Sync speed is 1/25 or 1/30 (the slowest speed).

There is an english version of manual somewhere online, but I don't know where... never needed it. Hopefully someone will point you to the right url.

I recently shot a roll through my Fed 2 with a few flash pictures and was pleasantly surprised to see how well exposed they came out.

Thank you all!!

I found the manual as you indicated Alex. I am looking forward to the first roll.....hope it shoots as good as it looks. BTW I got the camera from asterliks
ebay store and it came quickly and was even nicer than his description. Its very close to mint cosmetically..... as is the lens.

Thanks again!!

The picture isn't of a 2c, it's later. 2c would have the flash socket on the body and the plain wind knob rather than the "mushroom" one...it synchs at 1/30 on the model in the photo. Interesting that the lens is the tabbed version though - that looks like it's an older one and maybe not original...I think!

Thanks for the info. I am calling it a 2c because thats the way it was advertised. The serial number is 716377 and the lens is 562785. The speeds on the dial are 25, 50, 100 250 500 and B.

The camera has no 30 setting. Anyway.....any info would be appreciated.

The Industar 26m is the closest the Soviets came to making a late 1950s vintage 50mm Zeiss Tessar clone.
this lens does not produce that overly contrasty look of say, the I-61 or even more so the I- 61 l/d.

If you have trouble getting your fingers out of the way when you snap a shot off, you might want to try a softee shutter release. It made all the difference to me.

when I look back at all the excellent pictures I have taken with FSU`s and many different lenses , the best overall were those taken with a Fed 2 with an Industar 26 .
But it could have been that that particular combo had everything just right in it. I really have to split hairs to distinguish one good camera/lens combo from another .

I have always had better results when the rig was one I enjoyed handling.....we'll see.

Thanks

i love my Industar 26 (my fed 2 has an annoying pinhole in the shutter that i've figured out i can ignore if I leave the lens cap on until i've already focused and am ready to snap- one of the benefits of having a rangefinder!!)

my favorite shots with this lens are one when you've focused in on an object close to you and you've got your aperture as far open as possible. the background just blurs perfectly

I see that you're already appreciating the fine, elegant qualities of the 'other' FSU rangefinder. Its simplicity is its greatest virtue. The relatively few moving parts work so harmoniously- fewer parts mean less possibilities of breakdowns. The simpler mechanism also makes the FED a reliable tool. It won't likely stop working and leave you hanging at the least wanted moment.

You won't be ready all the time when you have the lens capped between shots. A tiny pinhole- if that's what you have in your FED- is easy to fix.
Patch it with a spot of black textile paint, india ink mixed with a drop of Elmer's glue, or anything similar. Apply the patching material with a toothpick, dab to cover the hole and flatten the paint, and let dry. Annoying pinhole gone.

thanks jay!

does it matter if i put the patch on the film pane side or the lens side?

the hole is about 1mm, so it's not the tiniest of holes

thanks for the help

I want to report back on the FED 2c1.....I shot a roll yesterday and it was perfect!! The conditions allowed me to use all the shutter speeds and I also shot some strobe stuff.....I am thrilled with this camera and Asterliks (EBAY Store) for providing a near mint camera and lens for $43.00 plus shipping. Jeeze. I was so impressed I just ordered a Zorki 4 so I will have a second FSU. Until I started to visit here I had no idea FSU's were any good.....well your never too old to learn!!

Tim

It doesn't matter really where the patch is on. It's easier though to work on the side facing the film plane. It would help too, to have the patching done on both sides.
