- links to my first attempt at having photographs in magazine style format: this is not a book. It turned out to be far more difficult than I had imagined and there are issues I have with the result. Judge for yourself – no prizes for spotting where things have gone wrong, or could be improved.

I used the better paper options offered by BLURB BookWright and the magazine feels good with quality cover and a slight sheen to quite substantial pages. Pictures came out slightly darker than hoped for but are acceptable.

Due to BLURB peculiarities there is a sale price, but please do not buy. This is very much a trial venture and only illustrated here for members information about another publishing possibility.

I know members will respect this request.

That's an interesting format I wasn't familiar with, Jesse. The layout is clean and modern. Did you specify the layout or was it a pre-pattern into which you plugged the photos?

Nice effort!

John, that is super cool!
I didn't know Blurb has expanded their format to magazines.
And even the price is reasonable (I acknowledge that you don't care about that, but that's just because you're a classy guy).

Thanks Dick (Bike Tourist).
There are page formats supplied in BookWright and they can be individually dragged onto a specific page. In my case I devised each and every format on the cover and all the pages to suit what I wanted to do with the pictures in each section. It was easier to do that than try to modify Blurbs formats.

However fitting pictures together to just touch is a pain in the proverbial - I've not quite managed it on the back cover!

I have recieved my first blurb magazine this week. It is very nice, i found it easy to make, once i understood how to position the pictures. However the photographs are rendered with less saturation and contrast than expected, and the shadows are too deep. But you get the magazine feeling, i like it.

The cover is good quality. The magazine paper is thin. Next time i will try the premium paper to see the difference.

You can see how it looks here http://instagram.com/p/qzw54MEWHm/ and here http://instagram.com/p/qzxJkvkWIC/

Herjulfr - premium pages don't seem to reflect light particularly - I would call them matt, but the print on both lettering and pictures has a sheen. I think it looks pretty good as the paper isn't really a brilliant white either, and it is substantial enough.
