Howdy Folks!

After a week of waiting, my GS is here. Completly restored, new light seals, Yashica-Guy battery, it's ready to run! A pretty unit. All for about fifty smackers US, from evilbay.
I got the box of 8 rolls of Walgreens film for six bucks, and I'm ready for the Holidays.
A real nice camera and my first rangefinder, it will take a few shots to get used to focusing one of these things. Different from SLR's and TLR's, but I like it a lot.

Last weekend I threw out a bid on a Lynx 14 just for a lark. I won it !! I have no idea what shape it will be in. The seller said it was "from an estate,I don't know much about cameras". It was only $26 bucks, so if its DOA at least I'm not out much money.
Anyone reccomend the proper battery to put in a 14 ? Here's look'n forward to RF'n !!

Thanks !

Aus - congrats on the GS, have fun during the holidays!

And that's a steal for the Lynx - if it has any problems ask our Greyhoundman - he is the man when it comes to reviving expired Yashicas!

Congrats on your new GS!
It´s a wonderfull aperture preferred camera with a lens that´s second to none in terms of contrast and sharpness.
Enjoy it!!

Ref, the Lynx 14, I´m using an alkaline battery (Duracell A625) and had no troubles. I do suppose the previous owner had the meter recalibrated to the higher voltage (1.5 instead of 1.35 V). I´ve checked it against a Gossen Luna Pro CdS meter and differences are less than 1/3 stop.
Usual problem with the Lynx (as well as with any other old leaf shuttered camera) is a sticky shutter (doesn´t work at all), erratic operation (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t) or unpredictable (or none) low speeds .
If it comes DOA, give a call to Greyhoundman. He´s the guy who knows.

Ernesto.

Hey, Thanks very much Chris and Ernesto!!
Looking at the ebay photo of the Lynx, the case that it comes with looks almost new. Hopefully, that is an indicator that the camera itself was well cared for. Hope it gets here soon !!

Another Austinite! I'm getting ready to head out of town for a couple of weeks, but if you ever want to get together, I can be reached at xyz2000 (AT) mail (DOT) utexas (DOT) edu

Congratulations on the GS. Those are good cameras. Sweet that it's your first rangefinder.

Lynx, another Yashica! Nice. fixed lens rangefinder. Fast lens. Nice too. Takes old batteries, now discontinued. Sure you can find the batteries somewhere (PX 625 mercury).

I often think of buying a GSN Electro, but have not yet given in.

Enjoy your new cameras.

Thanks shutterflower ! Looking forward to gett'n the 14 CLA'd and putt'n a roll through it!

Hey Russ.. Small world huh !!! Yes , the GS is nice. Took it to a used camera store today for a lens cap. The guy woorking there is an RF fan also. He was very impressed with the GS and asked if he could look at it. Said it was in mighty fine shape ! My first roll will be out of it this weekend.
