A long story - the guy who usually processed my films closed shop suddenly leaving a note on the door that all of the films are in another shop.I drove to another shop, only to find it closed for restoration.I returned there a week after and found it working, discovered that the owner of the previous shop had some heart surgery(which was succesful and he is in recovery) and that the owner of the second shop has a stock of old cameras - I asked if they were for sale and he said yes.I played with a couple of agfa scale focus cameras(3-5$) in great condition and then saw a yashica 14E(1c) in the back I asked how much it was and he said 70 NIS(16$).I grabbed it and paid the man - the yashica has no light meter swith)its out of the socket( but the speeds all differ and the lens is clean.I shot a test roll and hope for the best.

he said he has a crate or two of old cameras he'll dig out for me in a week or so.

Congratulations! The 14e is a great camera. I know there have been a few negatives mentioned about Mark Hama, but he reconditioned mine, and did a spectacular job. Make sure you get a good lens hood. The lens is fast, but it also has a tendency to be flary!. Enjoy the camera!

I prefer the Lynx to the GSN but they're both wonderful. I second Jeff Greene. Spend a few sheckles and have it restored. I would recommend greyhoundman here. Shoot him a PM to see if he's still accepting cameras. Mark Hama has a great reputation, as does Essex camera, though I've never used either at this point. This is a must. Decades sitting in a crate are not condusive to full working operation. Literally, every camera I bought off eBay that wasn't reconditioned either broke shortly after I got it - (jammed or meter went), or didn't work at all. There are exceptions but in my experience it's not the norm.

Have fun. As Mr Greene says, the lens is a steal but they are most definately flare prone. Great cameras.

I dont think I'll mess with the meter - I use a handheld anyway so no point restoring it - the hood is a problem - I need a vented one - so it's ebay.
