My rangefinder

Yeah, the shutter on my SP is pretty loud compared to my Yashica electro, which is very soft. Canonet i28 is very slightly louder, but nothing compared to the SP

Nick, the entire shutter mechanism on the 35SP is located in the lens housing. So, there is not much between you and the shutter to muffle the noise. It's an old design, held over from the mid-1960's.

The 35RC and later 35RD have their escapements fitted within the body of the camera. They are therefore noticeably quieter in operation.

Another noticeable trait with this shutter is changing shutter speeds feels about as smooth as shifting gears on a 50 year old Minneapolis-Moline tractor, especially when engaging the slow speed gear train.

That said, unless you're addicted to an auto mode, the 35SP will outperform the 35RD. It's seven element G. Zuiko is simply superb.

Yep, it's not the smoothest camera when changing shutter speeds...

But I do love the lens on it!
And the Auto mode works fine. Pity the meter isn't more sensitive in low light though...

chendayuan,
Since the shutter on that black SP is obviously defective, feel free to send it to me, I'll encase it in velvet pillows before shooting.

Nicely done!

I like all three, pehaps the third best, but all are very good.

Welcome chendayuan! :) and yep, nice shots and specially like the first one !

Btw, just out of curiosity, did you do the hammertone paint work yourself, looks real nice...
