I'm giddy with delight, my brand new Canoscan 8600F arrived this afternoon.
After the requisite setup and testing, I'm eagerly scanning in photographs. Right now I'm not doing any digital archiving (not enough disk space), so I'm bringing 1200 DPI scans into photoshop, finishing them, and saving them optimized for the web, to share.
The first batch I'm running through is the first roll of slide film I ever shot (Fuji Provia 100f), several months ago, in my Nikon N80 with Nikkor 50mm 1.8. They definately don't look as brilliant as they did holding them up to the light, but that's not how they're meant to be viewed anyway. I've also found a couple that (I think) really demonstrate the dynamic range gap, either that, or my eyes deceive me when I look at them in the light and see perfect exposure, and then see blown highlights on the screen.
I'll be posting the pick of the litter as I finish them, and I'd love any comments, or critiques.
This is Mr. Iremonger, the computer applications teacher at my high school, most freshman will have him. No one can say anything ill of him, except that he is very soft spoken, and given to letting students push him around a bit.
I snagged him out of his class for two quick photos, and said that I hoped they turned out.
Mild curve corrections for color and contrast.

Dinner the night before the Bar Mitzvah, and his father couldn't be happier. After all, he's done this before, four times.

Nikon FG + 50mm 1.8 @ somewhere near wide open.

Neat.
I need a film scanner, but I want control over my surface area, and appertenty that is not easily acheived with a cheap end scanner.
Bast.
