There is a coffee shop that I frequent that has a rather large, unobstructed space that rotates out various local art every month. I have the space booked out for November, and am trying to do something different with it.
Mostly the wall rotates between abstract expressionists painting, and a 10 best type showing of local landmarks & nature. I want to break the common rhythm and a) do a street photography showing, and B) not end up spending $300+ on framing.
My original idea to not have a big framing cost was to print off a large volume of 4x6s and just pin them up with thumb tacks. The space could easily accommodate 100-200 prints at eye level using this method.
My problem with this though, is that I do not have 100-200 street photos to use from my own collection without digging into some really unimpressive work. So, here is where you come in.
There is no rule that I have to use the wall space purely for my own self promotion. So who here would be willing to pick their best four street photos from their career and let me use them for this show?
I think it would be much more interesting then the typical coffee shop showing if the images went beyond regional, and came from people all over the world.
Secondly, if any of the more long time shooters here were willing to participate, I think it would be awesome as well to get a mix of photos that were shot before 2000 as well. I have a small set of street photos that goes back to the 1940s that I'd replicate and include in the show if I get enough interest.
My current idea for creating the physical prints would be to just have each photographer send me files scaled for 4x6 or 4x5 printing, and I'll print off all the images at once and handle the printing cost.
Please respond to this thread if this is something you'd be willing to participate in. It's no MOMA, but it would be nice to breath some non-regional life into our local art scene.
