Hello
Just brought my ZI back to the shop
Last week, during a small trip to the Black forest in Germany, in the middle of a roll FP4, the first curtain of the shutter blocked. After touching it with a finger, it went back into position but I couldn't take a photo, because the film lever didn't work.
In the evening I put a new film in the camera for testing and everything appeared to work normally. I exposed three more rolls of film. But after development , i got the great surprise. Only three or four photoes per roll were exposed.
30 EUR costs for nothing !
This happened after only three rolls of film, the camera was brand new.
It seems that ZI has realy QC problems.

the ZI bodies are really made by KMZ in Russia and then sent to Japan to have the vulcanite fitted.

If you have only one camera, that makes a 100% failure rate. Impressive

to the op, jacques, no disrespect meant, just having a little fun.
rff seems to be suffering from some sort of loop syndrome where the same topics keep popping up and i get a bit too silly with them at times.

I bought a brand new Nikon FM2n several years ago. It failed and had to be exchanged. This is a camera design that had been in production for years and years. The replacement is still going strong. It's sad and upsetting to have a new camera crap-out on you just out of the box, but that is one of the reasons we buy new gear -- for the warranty. And why we wait until our cameras are out of warranty before we recover them in red.
I'm sure that Zeiss will make thing right for you.
take care,
Michael

Does that mean you are Done ?

No disrespect, Jacques ... Having a camera fail on a trip is a bad experience,
but I am glad your camera is covered by warranty.

Well I for one will not joke around with you because I have had several of these cameras break on me. Some people here seem to think we are just blowing smoke and being unreasonable when we say that the camera that doesn't work is not good. Just do what I did, get a bessa and use the money for lenses, or hey, there is always the m6.

My M5s need red dots!
Jacques, you must have purchased it directly from Zeiss Ikon, so contact them about it. They were able to sell it to you, they should be able to keep you satisfied with a repair or another body. Good luck!
And, joe... aren't you happy because Frank's looking for an M5? That means you're the "done" here!

fransisco, i doubt that i will ever truly be done.
but like the winter that will soon be gone and the spring that will be upon us i hope all the gear talk in my mind will be gone when i can go outside and shoot in the warmth and sunshine.
i am so very tired of gear talk even though i seem powerless to stop talking.
