Probably many of you have already seen this but I thought it could make no harm to give the link again. At around 11:00 minutes he start talking also of the old question of digital vs film.

As a side note I love that the guy produces photographs for advertising Nike, Adidas, Puma and Umbro as well as Mercedes, Lexus, Hyundai and Renault. And I also like that he calls Leni Riefenstahl's photography "Proletarian".

Thanks for the link - I hadn't seen the interview before. IMO Kander is the most interesting 'big name' photographer working today (I'm a big fan in particular of his 'landscape' work).

I like at the end when he mentions that his love for mechanical cameras has disappeared: "I have no love for the actual thing I hold anymore..."

I can relate. There is nothing like holding, and using, a Hasselblad, Leica, or even an old Nikon F. They simply aren't made the same way anymore, and something is lost there.

I think he is absolutely spot-on about digital and film: no love for the gear but there is no question that this is what you have to use professionally 99% of the time, wet darkroom work and digital darkroom work are really more similar than many dare to say, you can be more precise in the digital darkroom than in the wet darkroom but maybe you shouldn't, you no longer have that "stomach upset" thinking whether you had fulfilled your assignment or not and this is at the same time a bad and a good thing. For once I agree 100% with everything he says.

It is to be said however that eventually digital cameras quality will get to a plateau and one will buy again a camera thinking that that is going to be his/her workhorse for a decade or more and not something which will be obsolete within a year or so and maybe love for the gear will be back, at least for me.
