Hey guys I need your help with the following:
I have a cousin living in Mount Druitt, New South Wales (just outside of Sydney according to Google) and I'd like to help her out with her school. Financially she can't afford a laptop & so I'd like to purchase one for her. I thought about buying locally here in Canada and then delivering there, but I thought it might be better to perhaps purchase one there in the event that these wonderful little gizmos have a glitch. This way she can take it back and get some warranty work off of it.... plus it might just be more of a hassle to have to send her a package.
Are there any Best Buy-type stores near Mount Druitt? Or are there other stores you'd be able to suggest?
Thanks all,
j

Harvey Norman, Officeworks, DSE Powerhouse, Clive Peeters, there are many stores, with outlets all over Sydney.
The really cheap laptop deals are not too bad, often include a cash-back from the wholesaler. Often there's something for Au$600 - $900 (then the cashback comes off as well). Eg Compaq 14" widescreen, 1gb ram, average processor, $599 ($799 less $200 cashback). Such deals are varied, and come up quite often. We got that one a few months back.
If your cousin goes 25-30 minutes into Sydney to Auburn there's all of those stores, and more, withing 2 or 3 minutes of each other on Parramatta Rd (they'll know where that is).
Out of interest there's a couple of clearance places there too... right next to the Officeworks, is the Clive Peeters clearance outlet. And over the road is the Harvey Norman computer clearance outlet (lots of bargains).
Also, coming from the west, if your cousin takes the church st (auto alley) exit off the M4, and heads down Parramatta Rd towards Auburn, just before the Bunnings store there's a factory seconds outlet where I bought my fridge, tv, and lcd monitor from. I've seen computers in there too.
Also, as your cousin is a student, they can access the software much cheaper than buying 'student' versions from the stores.
From this site they can get Windows, Office, and other software, legit full-function with cd from Microsoft/Adobe etc., for very good prices: http://www.sigroup.com.au/
Or there's Microsoft's download very cheap option for Office (but only for Uni/Tafe students): http://www.itsnotcheating.com.au
Hope this helps.
Cheers...
Fergus.
