I got the Elmarit-R, 28mm, along with a new (to me) R3. The Elmarit comes with a lens hood as part of the original equipment. And no instructions about how to mount it. There are two small studs on the lens at the 12 o"clock and 6 o"clock positions. And the hood has a small knurled knob on it. I've managed a jam-fit which looks OK, but I think I'm not mounting the lens incorrectly. Can someone with experience with this lens help me out?

Thanks to all who reply.

With best regards.

You have an Elmarit-R 28mm f/2.8 (series I).

Look at the lens hood's top and bottom flanks. On one of them you will see embossed

LEITZ WETZLAR GERMANY

VII

On the other is a pair of arrows arranged in a right angle, one pointing up and the other pointing right. They are the instructions as to how to remove the hood: Pull it forward, and turn it to the right while holding the lens pointing away from you. To fit the hood, align the white dot with the peg, push the hood onto the lens, and turn it to the left ... it will snap into place at the correct position.

The lens hood acts also as a series VII filter retainer. You place the lens hood into the hood, then fit the hood to the lens. The little knurled wheel is there to allow you to rotate a polarizing filter.
